Hawks Trample Northwestern, Lose Prez to Graduation
The Iowa Hawkeyes traveled to Evanston, IL this past weekend to take on their Big
Ten rival Northwestern Wildcats. Iowa and Northwestern have been regular
opponents over much of the past decade and usually have a fairly even,
give-and-take series.  It was not to be this season however as the Hawks dismantled
the Wildcats on their home ice.

Friday nights game was the first for the Hawkeyes since they lost at Missouri State at
the end of first semester. The IceHawks hoped to start second semester strong, and
they did just that as they skated to a 9-2 victory on Friday night. Iowa looked to carry
that momentum over to Saturday and as they went for their first road series sweep of
the season. The Hawks managed to just that as they once again dominated
Northwestern in every aspect of the game to beat the Wildcats 11-3.

The convincing victories over Northwestern in terms of the Mid-America Collegiate
Hockey Association as they improved Iowa's record over Silver Division teams to 4-0.
Iowa also swept Silver Division opponent Palmer Chiropractic earlier in the year
(Palmer currently sits in first place in the Silver division). While games against
MACHA Silver opponents do not count in the MACHA standings for the Hawkeyes
they are very important when teams are ranked at the end of the season to
determine which teams will be placed in which division.

The games against Northwestern also marked the first time in over four years that
the Hawkeyes played without team captain and Iowa Hockey President Mike
Coleman. Coleman was a great leader on the ice, and was additionally indispensable
off of it, and his Iowa IceHawks would like to take this space to thank him for
everything he has done for them as an organization. Thanks Mike, and the best of
luck to you at Union Pacific!
