Iowa Dominates Wheaton
The Hawkeyes began the second semester of play exactly the way they wanted to,
and perhaps they even surpassed their own expectations. At Wheaton this past
weekend Iowa outscored the opposition by a combined 21 goals in just two games.
While at times it was noticeable that the IceHawks had not played a game for nearly a
month, they also showed their ability to completely dominate their opponents.
In Friday's game the IceHawks found themselves fighting off the effects of break as
they were tied 1-1 after a frustrating first period. However, in the second the Hawks
exploded for 12 goals to take a 13-1 lead over the Thunder. No goals would be
scored in the third as Iowa cruised to a 12 goal win in their first game of the second
semester.
The story was not much different on Saturday night as Iowa controlled the entire
game. The Hawks spread out their scoring a bit more as they cruised to a 9 goal
victory by the score of 11-2. The Hawks' swept the Thunder for the fifth consecutive
season as Wheaton has not defeated Iowa since 2001.
*Notes: The University of Iowa's games scheduled for 2/3/06 and 2/4/06 against the
University of Illinois at Chicago have been cancelled due to unspecified reasons. The
Hawks will next take the ice against Western Illinois on 2/10/06 at Coral Ridge Ice
Arena in Coralville and on 2/11/06 at Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids.
