IceHawks Stunned at Home
The IceHawks went into this past weekend against conference opponent McKendree
University looking to head into break on a positive note and with a couple more
games in the win column. Instead, they played inconsistent hockey that lead to two
stunning at home losses and a sweep in favor of the McKendree Bearcats.

The Hawkeyes continued their trend of striking first on Friday night as Brant Mozak
came off the Iowa extended roster to notch his first goal of the season five minutes
into the game to give the Hawks an early lead. Three minutes later Iowa's Kyle Norris
would score to increase the lead to two in favor of the Hawkeyes. The Bearcats would
fight back however and tie the game at 2 goals each before UI Assistant Captain
Rees O'Donnell scored to recapture the lead for the Hawks with 7 minutes remaining
in the first period.

In the second Mckendree would score 2:36 into the period to tie the game once
again. The Bearcats would also take their first lead of the night four minutes later as
they scored to make the game 4-3 in their favor. Jamie Elliott would score for the
Hawkeyes and Brant Mozak would add his second of the night as the second period
wound down to make it 5-4 in favor of Iowa heading into the third. In the third period
the Hawkeyes were plagued by the same inconsistency and defensive letdowns that
had allowed McKendree to remain close in the previous two periods. However Iowa
was not able to make up for their mistakes by strong offensive play as they were
outscored by the Bearcats 3-0 as the Hawks lost only their third game of the season
by the score of 7-5.

On Saturday the defensive lapses and miscues continued as Iowa lost again by the
score of 9-5 to complete the sweep for the Bearcats. Iowa goaltender Dave Barwig
was removed from the game midway through the second period and replaced by Tim
Strauch. Iowa's five goals were scored by Ken Galniski, Craig Bagdon, JP Cadorin,
Brant Mozak, and Kyle Norris. The IceHawks will have the next four weeks off as the
University of Iowa goes on winter break and return to the ice on January 20th when
they look to rebound as they take on the Wheaton Thunder at the Center Ice of
Dupage in Glen Ellyn, Illinios.

Notes: Saturday's loss to McKendree came in non-conference play... Iowa Captain
Mike Coleman and forward Zach Piper both were suspended from Friday night's
contest... Brant Mozak, Ross Vanderpoel, and Brian Paro all came off the extended
roster to play for Iowa on Friday night and Mozak played on Saturday as well... Next
games are: 1/20/06 at 8:10 PM and 1/21/06 at 6:50 PM vs. Wheaton College
