Hawkeye Hockey Announces New Head Coach
Outgoing Team President Kyle Norris and incumbent President Joe Scerba announced today that the Hawkeye
Hockey Club has promoted 2007-08 team assistant coach Nick “Whitey” White to the head coaching position
effective immediately.  White will replace long time coach Kevin Harter at the helm.  Whitey will begin a smooth
transition into the head coaching duties and will expound on his assistant coaching assignments from the 2007-08
season.
As the Hawkeye program continues to grow and expand with potential player interest at an all-time level, Whitey will
place a great importance on player commitments, academics, attitude and a highly structured systems approach to
the game.  “The growth of this program can be attributed to the hard-work and dedication of many persons
preceding myself, and I can not thank all of them enough for their confidence and support.  This season’s freshman
and sophomore class has echoed their sentiments loud and clear in making me their coaching choice for the
foreseeable future.  I will do everything in my powers not to disappointment them”, explained White.
A new three-year strategic plan will put into place to continue the growth of the program.  Written by outgoing Team
President Norris and edited by White, the plan places emphasis on team member leadership, increased
participation from the University and outside community involvement.  The goals include a boost in student and
community awareness, an increase in the level of play to maintain regional rankings and in due course, an ice
facility.
The tentative schedule for the 2008-09 season in addition to the Gold Division of the MACHA conference, will be
the toughest to date and include Kentucky, Minnesota, Northern Michigan, St. Thomas, DePaul, Lindenwood and
Division I opponents Iowa State and Illinois among others.
The Hawkeyes will continue the youth movement, with the projected addition of numerous incoming players.  With
the program’s first regional ranking during the 2007-08 season, interest has grown and anticipated numbers may
necessitate the call for two teams, a varsity and junior varsity squad.

Note:
Coach White will be actively looking for an assistant coach to help with the on and off-ice duties needed to manage
the team(s).  Please contact Whitey via e-mail at
white.hws@machlink.com if you are interested or have information
regarding a person who has expressed a curiosity in the past.  Potential candidates must have sufficient knowledge
of the game of hockey, leadership skills and the ability to commit to weekend travel from September through
February.  The position is a non-compensated, expense paid arrangement.
