FAQ - 2008-09 Season
Who is eligible to play for Hawkeye Hockey?
ONLY students registered for the 2008-09 fall/winter semesters at the
University of Iowa are eligible for the club hockey program.  At tryouts,
you must show proof of University registration to be allowed to tryout
and participate.
ACHA Player Eligibility Requirements
 All players must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 by the
beginning of the students second year of eligibility.
 Enrolled in a program of study leading to a baccalaureate, masters
or doctoral degree as determined by the regulations of the college or
university.
What are the estimated costs for participation in the club?
Player costs for the 2008-09 season will be $1,500.00 per player.  Costs can be reduced
by soliciting sponsorship monies and contributions to the program.  Members will have a
percentage of these amounts directly applied to their accounts thus reducing their playing
costs.  The program has several options for members to help significantly reduce their
membership dues.  All membership dues
MUST be paid in FULL, NO LATER than September
30th, 2008.  After this date members will not be allowed to participate in the program until such
time as the dues are collected by the club treasurer.  Once players commit to the program after
the September 30th deadline absolutely
NO REFUNDS will be issued.
When are practice times and games scheduled?
Practice times for the 2008-09 Season as follows:Off-Ice Monday Nights 8:00 p.m.- 9:30 p.m.
Tuesday Nights @ 8:15 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. & Thursday Mornings @ 7:00 a.m.- 8:15 a.m.
and for September ONLY - Monday Mornings @ 7:00 a.m.- 8:15 a.m.
Home games are scheduled for Friday Nights @ 7:30 p.m. and Saturday afternoons @ 4:45
p.m. This season two Friday Night Homes Games will be held as part of Midnight Madness.
More details as they become available.  Away games usually fall on Fridays and Saturdays.
How do practices and games affect my academic schedule?
Hawkeye Hockey does its' best to schedule practices that will not conflict with the majority of
class schedules.  At times students will have no choice on class times and they may conflict with
scheduled practice times.  Hawkeye Hockey
DOES NOT advocate students missing classes in
lieu of attending club practices.  Academics come first and foremost and the coaches will
certainly take into account a specific students' academic schedule when conflicts occur.
Home games will never conflict with the academic schedules of students.  Away Games will
require students to miss classes on Fridays when the traveling distance warrants for extra time
to meet the game time start.  As a recognized University Club Sport, excused club absences for
said club activities is typically granted by the class professors.  Unfortunately there may be
times when a student will not be excused for an exam or other class assignments.  Again, the
club does its' best to limit these conflicts and takes each conflict on a case by case basis.
What about transportation for team practices and games?
Students will need to find a car pool system within the team organization to obtain rides to the
Coral Ridge Ice Arena for practices and games.  In the past, more than enough of our members
provide transportation for students who do not drive or have access to a personal vehicle.  This
is a tightly knit group of players who will help accommodate everyone.  For Away Games the
club will provide transportation with the use of University of Iowa vehicles loaned from the
general motor pool. Usually three vehicles, along with a trailer for equipment and supplies is
secured for said transportation.  Students will be responsible for driving these vehicles to and
from the away games.  Adult supervision is provided by the team coaching staff and oversees
that all laws and rules are followed to the letter.  Occasionally and when the budget will allow,
the team will charter a bus for longer trips.
What are the equipment requirements?  What does the club provide?
ALL players MUST provide full equipment, including a full face shield (absolutely no half shields
or visors are permitted) and mouth guards.  The hockey club provides jerseys (home & away)
and all matching socks and tape both white & black.  Players are responsible for sticks, skates,
helmets (
MUST be Black in color), gloves (MUST be black combinations in color), breezers
(
MUST be Black in color) and all other protective equipment. The hockey club has a dedicated
locker area for all players to store their equipment and skate sharpening machine for use by all
players.
How competitive is the program?
Hawkeye Hockey was regionally ranked in the Central Region of the ACHA Division II for the
first time in club history in 2007-08.  Our program is on the upward curve with nothing holding
us back.  The majority of our players have juniors experience, played AAA Level Hockey or
where All-Stars on their respective High School teams.
Hawkeye Hockey is anticipating a large number of players and interest in our program is at an
all-time high.  Please plan accordingly and be
READY to compete. Tryouts will be full contact,
full speed, high intensity and extremely competitive.
What else should I know?
Our program is fun and exciting, offers great camaraderie, friendships, social events and a
lifetime of great memories.  We want you to be part of all of this, but we need you to be willing
to commit back to us your time, effort, dedication and hockey experience into continuing to
make the program successful.
