Hawkeyes’ Dudzik balancing competition, fun at Iowa

CORALVILLE, Ill. – Dean Dudzik is getting the best of both worlds at the University of Iowa.

The junior forward out of the Chicago suburb of Naperville, Ill., is majoring in Environmental Science and a key component of the Hawkeyes’ hockey team, also serving as the team’s treasurer.

“I wanted to attend a school with good academic credentials and a solid hockey program,” Dudzik said. “I like how our program balances competition and fun. We have a serious club program but also stress that the experience should also be enjoyable.”

During his pre-college days, Dudzik skated for the Naperville Sabres AA program and at Neuqua Valley High School.

As treasurer for the Hawkeyes, Dudzik oversees all financial operations of the team and handles and distributes team funds to make sure the team stays on the ice.

“I expect us to be at the top like the previous season,” said Dudzik. “We have maintained a strong core and should perform well.

“Personally, my goals here are to win nationals in hockey and graduate on time.”

Iowa hosts the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh this weekend at Coral Ridge. Game times are 7 p.m. Friday night and 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the finale.
