Iowa scores early, often in big victory over UWO Friday night

CORALVILLE, Iowa – The University of Iowa hockey team romped to a 12-3 win over the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh Friday night at the Coral Ridge Ice Arena.

Jake Carlson led the way for the Hawkeyes with three goals and four assists, while Zack Lupori had two goals and two assists, Brody Brenczewski a goal and three assists, and Matt Wilson tacked on a pair of goals with two helpers.

Paul Ovnik also netted his first collegiate goal as part of the attack.

“It feels amazing, and it was really a moment I will never forget,” said Ovnik. “I hope me and my linemates can produce more as we progress through the season.”

Billy Jeffers added a goal and two assists, Dean Dudzik had a goal plus an assist, and Blake Brenczewski also scored in the victory.

Miles Corrigan stopped 16 shots for the win in goal as the Hawkeyes outshot UWO 61-19.

The two teams meet again Saturday back at Coral Ridge for a 4:30 p.m. opening faceoff.
