Sophomore standout Imburgia loving Hawkeyes’ experience on, off the ice

CORALVILLE, Ill. – Initially, Luke Imburgia came to the University of Iowa last season for the phenomenal academics.

Turns out once he arrived on campus that he came to the school for more than he bargained for.

“I was always really interested in coming to Iowa for the business school and found out I knew some past teammates coming as well to play on the hockey team,” said Imburgia, a native of Elmhurst, Ill. “I like the team environment, everyone gets along very well, and all hang out in and out of the rink.

“I think we have a great group of guys this season and have a good opportunity to do well in our league playoffs.”

Back home in the Chicago area, Imburgia skated for the Team Illinois program during his youth hockey days. He’s now a sophomore at Iowa, majoring in Accounting.

After getting swept last weekend by Iowa State, Imburgia has chosen to look ahead rather than in the rearview mirror.

“Last weekend’s series against Iowa State has motivated me to work harder and to understand where we need to go as a team,” he said.
